Hello! We are Cody & Justin from San Diego, California. We were both raised in large families and have always dreamt of becoming fathers. We cannot thank you enough for considering adoption and helping to make this dream possible. We chose adoption because we have deep respect for birth mothers who make this courageous decision.

As parents, we will provide unconditional love and support to your child. They will have financial security, a stable home, and opportunities for growth, exploration, and pathways to achieve a fulfilling life.

In 2009 we met during graduate school at Cody’s professor’s house. Cody remembers walking in and immediately being teased by a stranger, Justin. Cody responded with a lighthearted comment back, and it was love at first joke.

We immediately felt a strong connection and bonded over our shared sense of humor and complementary personalities. After finishing graduate school our careers pulled us in different directions and we spent 7 years living apart. These years were challenging and involved a lot of travel, but we maintained a strong and committed relationship.

In 2017 Cody found an attorney position in San Diego where Justin was a professor. In 2019 we were married outdoors along the San Diego Bay, warmed by the sun and love of over 200 friends and family. Our wedding was the best day of our lives.

Over the past 14 years, we have shared many amazing memories; including holidays with friends and family, camping, and vacations. We are excited to continue to make incredible memories as a family with our future child.

I grew up in a working-class home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with two extraordinary parents (Deb & Ray) and a younger brother (Adam). Adam and I were surrounded by a loving family that included grandparents, 14 aunts and uncles, and 19 cousins.

I attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and had many interests. As a volunteer for the zoo, I became fascinated by biology. I also loved playing the violin and majored in music in middle school. By high school, I became involved in community activism and I worked for the City Council. My interest in science won out over music and politics and I studied biology at Cornell University.

During my senior year, I had a life-changing experience. I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) that caused blindness, paralysis, and loss of the ability to breathe. My friends and family were supportive, and, because of them, I recovered even stronger. During my rehabilitation, I gained a new life philosophy and began setting ambitious goals. Luckily my recovery was complete and I am in good health with little risk of that ever happening again. The year following GBS I ran the NYC Marathon, and then moved to Africa for half a year to do research. I also continued my education at the University of Ottawa, Michigan State University, and then Harvard Medical School.

Today I feel grateful and fulfilled Cody and I have a strong relationship and my job allows me the time and flexibility required to start a family.

Justin is the most thoughtful, caring, and passionate person I have ever met. He has a great sense of humor, and keeps life fun. It’s not surprising to me that he gets positive mentorship ratings from his students, and I know he will be a patient and kind father. He will also be an excellent role model for our future child.

I grew up in a small town in southwest Michigan, the youngest of five children. I am proud of all my siblings (Eric, Ben, Angie, & Marc) who have their own families and great careers. Altogether, I have 10 nieces and nephews that I love very much, and being an uncle has given my life so much meaning. I sadly lost my father at a young age but have always been surrounded by so much family love and support. My mom (Lori) loves being “grammy,” and all of the grandkids love “papa,” my step-dad (Rick). The backbone of the family is “memaw,” my 91-year-old grandmother (Margaret). And I have many aunts and uncles and cousins that feel more like parents and siblings than extended family.

After graduating high school, I moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University Chicago. While in college, I lived in Rome for a year, which opened my eyes to the world. I was able to travel and explore many places in Europe, and I even visited the pyramids in Egypt.

After receiving my law degree, I worked for several law firms for nearly twelve years, but I recently became a lawyer for a global tech company. This new position provides more paid time off and the ability to work from home, ensuring flexibility in my schedule to care for our future child.

Cody is smart, funny, caring, calm, and perhaps the most ethical, decent, and stable person I know. Before meeting him, I did not believe in love at first sight (or first joke), however I was instantly drawn to his sense of humor and wit. Cody will be an incredible “papa,” because he has the patience, devotion, and love that helps children flourish.

We own a three-bedroom bungalow house built in 1939. It is in the historic family-friendly neighborhood of North Park in San Diego. We can walk to several parks and the library, and we are a short drive to the zoo, wildlife park, museums, aquarium, and the beach. The neighborhood has a strong community that organizes holiday parades, summer festivals, and outdoor movie nights.

The school district is rated highly in terms of academics and diversity.

We rescued Professor Wrigley when she was over one-year-old. She is now seven, and is very loving, quirky, and playful. We know she will welcome a new baby into our home and her “pack” because she is protective and loving to children. She loves naps, four walks per day, and car rides. We also have a salt water tank with fish, shrimp, and coral!

We have a big family that is important to us. Most of our family lives in the Midwest; however, some also live in San Diego. Justin’s brother and his wife live nearby and cannot wait to help us welcome a child into our home. Cody’s cousin and his wife and two daughters live just a few miles away. We have a great network of friends that will help create a village to raise our future child!
