Hi! We are Darren and Ever from Toronto, Canada. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us. Wherever you are, we hope you are well, and we send you a lot of love.

Why We Are Adopting: We have a lot of love to give! We are excited to be on this adoption journey, and we will be forever grateful should you consider us to become your child’s adoptive parents.

Both of us are deeply connected with our families. We grew up with the dream of becoming parents. We love the idea of nurturing, teaching, and guiding a little human being into becoming a big human being, and we also see it as a beautiful opportunity for ourselves to grow and experience life in a new way.

We met here in Toronto in 2017 on a warm July night. It was a Canada Day barbecue organized by a friend we have in common. We started talking, we “clicked”, and have been together ever since. In many ways we complement each other. Ever is energetic, passionate and thoughtful, and Darren is calm, patient and loves to learn new skills.

Our lives are a combination of Canadian and Mexican cultures, for example, we both speak English, Spanish and French, and we both love cooking spicy foods.

Becoming a dad (or papá in Spanish) has been a life-long dream for me. I was raised in a loving family with my parents, two siblings and a lot of cousins (Mexican families often are big!). My family has always been my #1 priority.

I grew up in Mexico, and since I can remember I have loved traveling. I have traveled to many countries. In my late twenties I came to Canada where I earned my Masters in Business Administration and I fell in love with this country. Eight years later, I am a proud Canadian citizen, and I continue to love living here.

I am fortunate to work in a field I enjoy. As a Senior Brand Manager, I have the opportunity to create and launch new products, develop TV commercials, and work alongside very talented people. I also love that my work is very flexible (mostly from home), and is very family friendly (18 months parental leave, part-time work opportunities, etc).

I love my husband! He is energetic, passionate and compassionate. He calls his family in Mexico every day, even if just to talk about what they had for dinner.

He is always trying out new things. For example, he took cooking classes and made a Polynesian beef/pineapple dish that he served to my mom and I in a pineapple shell. So festive! He also a made vegetarian version for my sister, which she was very grateful for.

He works in marketing at a confectionery company - our nieces and nephews often look forward to visiting our house, knowing there is likely to be a stash of candy somewhere that he brought home from the office.

He is so loving and radiates warmth. He gives out lots hugs and has special nicknames for everyone he is close to.

I am so excited by the idea of becoming a parent. Since a young age, I have taken on roles of nurturing young people. I was a camp counselor and ski instructor for many years. After University, I was a teaching assistant, working at a high school, supporting teens with their day-to-day learning. I then went to medical school, where, in the summers, I led a camp for low-income youth.

I am a doctor, specialized in mental health (Psychiatrist). I have always been fascinated with how the human mind works. I work at a Mental Heath hospital, specializing in young patients. I see most of my patients by video-conference from our house, which gives me great flexibility.

I also love learning new things - I have recently been improving my Spanish so that I can more fully immerse myself in Ever’s culture and make better jokes with his family!

I’m so lucky I met Darren. He is patient, very smart, calm, funny, and very handsome! He loves board games, and once he likes one, he wants to play it over, and over again..., he loves canoe camping (this thing where you move from land to a river hiking, and using a canoe), playing volleyball with his friends, and doing nerdy crosswords before he sleeps.

Darren is very compassionate and has tremendous empathy. Through his psychiatry work he has helped many patients and their families navigate the toughest times of their lives.

Darren is caring, and definitely knows his way around kids. When playing with his nephews you will see him building Lego houses, making funny impressions, and telling some knock-knock jokes.

Our house is cozy, spacious, has squeaky wooden stairs, is decorated with art, family pictures, and plants. It has a big kitchen where we cook good meals (ok… not all are good, but we try…), and has a gated front yard where our nieces and nephews come to play.

We live in a calm neighborhood two blocks away from a big lake, where we take Suvi, our dog, for her walks. There are a lot of kids in our street, and we often see them playing hockey or basketball outside their houses.

Neither of us is very handy, but we do spend time caring for the house and making it a safe, clean, and calm place to live. Our favorite spaces in the house are the sun-room, where we have a snuggly couch and a lot of plants, and our living room with bookshelves full of books and cozy chairs.

Eleven years ago Darren took in a Labrador puppy with a chocolate-color coat, tiny paws and big eyes, and named her Suvi. Her name means “Summer” in the Finnish language.

Suvi is the most child-loving dog you will ever meet. She is a known by our neighbors for her puppy-like happy jumps. She loves kids, and kids love her. Fun facts about her: she snores a lot, she is a great swimmer, and she will do anything for a treat. Suvi is a very important part of our lives.

Both of our families have been cheering us on in our journey to form a family. They share in our excitement of becoming a family through adoption and they will be a big part of our future child’s life. They will be our pillar of support as we raise your child as adoptive parents.

Both of our families love spending time in Toronto with us. As we write this, Darren’s sister, nephews and mom are staying over for the weekend. Ever’s parents and brother also stayed with us a few days last summer.

We also love traveling together in big, loud groups. December 2022 we stayed at Ever’s parents’ house for a couple of weeks during the holidays. And last April we all traveled together to Whistler in Western Canada for a ski trip, where Ever’s nephews played with snow for the first time. It was super cute and we cannot wait to have these experiences with a child of our own.
