Hi! We’re January and Fernando from southern California. Thank you for the opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We hope to be a supportive and important part of your journey. We’ve been together for 15 years and married for 13 of those! We live in a wonderful mountain town community with beautiful tall pines, hiking trails, creeks and lots of art, music and child friendly activities. We frequently visit nearby beaches, family and friends in San Diego and Los Angeles.
Dear Birth Mother...
Thoughts on Adoption
We are absolutely thrilled to adopt a child into our home! We have always known that we wanted to have children and for various reasons, we have not been able to have our own. We’ve built such a strong and loving relationship that we are ready to welcome a child into our life and share the love, harmony and beauty we’ve created.
Our Story
We enjoy simple and meaningful moments together, like sharing a cup of coffee, a nice hike in the forest, a walk on the beach, watching movies, dancing together and good food (Thai food!). We enjoy experiencing different cultures often through food and music. For example, we were married in a Buddhist Center and celebrated our reception in a middle eastern restaurant with an authentic live middle eastern band, where everyone danced! We value health and wellbeing, having fun, experiencing joy, learning, and being of service.
Interests & Hobbies
- We value family and true friendships where we connect on a genuine level
- We both feel it’s important to take care of ourselves in body, mind and spirit so that we can show up for each other and for others. One of our favorite ways to do that is to be active in nature.
- We enjoy taking morning walks in the forest together along with our dog Charley. There’s a beautiful creek near us we like to visit with a little waterfall. We always come back feeling refreshed. As soon as our future child is ready, we will carry them with us on our nature walks.
- When we are in San Diego and Los Angeles visiting family, we love to go to the ocean. We are looking forward to playing in the water, collecting seashells, and making sandcastles with our future child.
About January, by January
I have always loved being around children, and I am so excited to become a mom! I have been an arts and crafts director at a summer camp, and tutored grade school math and reading. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic and am passionate about helping people heal and stay well. I get to work with families and children in my practice. I have flexible work hours and make my own schedule, so I will have lots of time for raising a child. I am close with my brother and his family. My niece is 7 and we love playing together! Our latest creation was a two part puppet show. I am proud to have a leadership role in my Buddhist Community that brings people of different races, ages and backgrounds together to work for world peace.
About January, by Fernando
When we were first dating, I remember January bought me an ironing board when she saw that it was time for me to replace the one I had. It was a small gesture but a really thoughtful one. She has continued to be thoughtful and kind in our relationship. From the beginning, I fell in love with January’s heart and her laugh. She can be silly and her seven year old niece loves that about her, They can laugh and play for hours.
January has really enjoyed helping babies and young children in her profession as a chiropractor and is also trained to be a Montessori school teacher. Her bright and loving spirit, passion for teaching and sense of humor will make her a great mom.

About Fernando, by Fernando
I have always believed in education and learning and have attained two masters degrees mostly because it allows me to challenge myself and grow as a person. I feel at peace among the trees and the mountains and really enjoy being outdoors in nature either hiking (nowadays with my dog Charley!) or riding my bike along the ocean. For work, I interact with people from different countries and cultures and really enjoy learning about them and from them. If there is anything that I want to impart to a child, it is the love of learning, of nature and interest in people from different cultures and traditions.

Fernando’s kind and steady personality drew me to him right away! He makes me and those around him feel heard, appreciated and safe. He is very affectionate with his family, children and animals. Our Home
Our neighborhood is at the edge of the national forest with tons of areas to play and hike. We live across the street from a nature center that has nature classes for children, an annual wildflower exhibit, a butterfly festival, a walking maze and an outside puppet theatre. We are excited to share these experiences with our future child.
We have a large fenced back yard with plenty of room to run around, and lots of good places to build a treehouse. January really enjoys building things. We built our first raised garden bed together last year. We take classes at the local community garden center to learn about how to plant different fruits and vegetables. We planted a couple of apple trees last year and can’t wait till we can make our first apple pie with the apples from our trees.
Our Loved Ones
January has a small family, and we are close with her brother, sister in law and 7 year old niece. Fernando has a large extended family. We are closest with his brother, his wife and two adult daughters. In 2022 his brothers eldest daughter and fiancé asked Fernando to officiate their wedding, which was so special and fun! A year later they had their first daughter, and they are so excited to have a cousin for her that is close in age. The whole family on both sides are excited for us to become parents and to welcome a new member to the family.
We also consider our friends to be “family of the heart”. Being able to have open and vulnerable heart to heart connections with friends is important to us. Our friends fully support our decision to adopt and are excited to meet the little one.
Meet Charley
Charley is an important part of our family. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old and he is now almost 3 years old. We have spent a lot of time socializing and training him. He loves people and other dogs, and is very patient and gentle with children. We think he’ll be very excited about another addition to the pack!
Thoughts on Parenting
- We value honesty and authenticity and look forward to learning about our future child’s unique personality and gifts
- We look forward to reading bedtime stories together, doing arts and crafts, and playing games
- We look forward to having them explore different sports, martial arts, dance or other activities that will allow them to express themselves through movement
- We will provide a safe and loving environment, with plenty of structure and guidance while still allowing our child to develop their own interests and let their innate gifts shine through.
- We believe it is important for a child to learn how to understand their emotions and how to handle them, and we will be there to help them navigate their feelings and questions along the way.
Thank You for Considering Us!
Our promise to you is to provide your baby with a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. We are committed to creating a happy home that is full of joy, laughter and learning. We are dedicated to staying attuned to what your child needs at every stage of development and giving them the best tools to succeed. We hope to make this experience as kind, respectful, and easy as possible for everyone involved.
