Hello! I’m Kate from Charleston, South Carolina. As I begin the process of adoption, I want you to know that I am in awe of the choice you are making for your child. You have chosen to put your child first, and that is a true test of bravery and love.
Dear Birth Mother...
Why I Am Adopting
When I think about why I want to adopt, I think about sharing all the blessings in my life. Truly, my life has been blessed. I have my health and a strong sense of financial responsibility. I have friends who are like family. Education has always been a value of mine, and I’ve been able to pursue by educational and, ultimately, my professional goals. Blessings along with bountiful love are meant to be shared, and I want to share them with my future child.
My Story
After a blessed childhood, I left my small town behind and moved to Charleston for college. While at the College, I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration. Not wanting to leave Charleston, I started working at the College right after graduation. I began working in athletics just about a year later, and as they say, “The rest is history.” I am now deputy athletic director and absolutely love that each day brings something different. I can see my future child with my dad and me cheering on the Cougars. (Don’t worry, we’ll use ear phones-a staple for babies in athletic department families!) I visit the beach often and, Agatha, my dog, loves those walks in the sand. My parents live close by-just about a 5-minute drive, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

For Fun
My future child will be a beach baby. Can’t you see that little kiddo building sand castles and collecting shells? I love taking photos at the beach-crashing waves, beautiful sunsets, and breathtaking moon rises. I cannot wait to share the wonders of the ocean with my future child. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. Books about the LowCountry (South Carolina’s Coast) are some of my favorites. Your child will ALWAYS have access to books; I’ve already started a children’s book collection! One of my favorites is, Maybe: A Story About the Endless Potential in All of Us, by Kobi Yamata. This book celebrates all of the different possibilities we hold inside us.
Cool Places I Have Traveled
In Alaska, I got to see the Northern Lights. The night I went, the local guide said it was the most vivid he'd ever seen them! In Ireland, I found a love of tea with milk! In Texas, I ate every bit of a steak that was as big as my plate. I guess things really are bigger there.
My Home
I am blessed to live very near the peninsula of Charleston. My home has a beach cottage vibe. When I looked at the house with the real estate agent, I fell in love with the front porch. I knew it was the one before I even went inside. The porch will look perfect filled with water toys in the summer. There are three bedrooms in the house, one of which will be my future child’s nursery. I envision bright colors everywhere. The inspiration for the room will be a framed LOVE Alphabet poster that my parents colored for me when I was a baby. Outside of my home, your child will be surrounded by loving communities-my Charleston Athletics Family, close friends, and a church family. My future child will engage in life-long relationships with strong, positive role models.
Meet Agatha
Agatha, my rescue “dog-person” is around 8 years old. She is a full-time house dog but insists on going on two daily walks. She is a gem of a dog who loves to cuddle. Her very big dog heart will love my future child as much as she loves me; and that’s a lot!
Meet My Family
I was blessed to have both my maternal and paternal grandparents well into my adult years. One grandma was my shopping and tea-party grandma, and the other shared her love of nature and cooking. As the only grandchild on both sides for a large part of my childhood, I was both adored and spoiled. My future child will have loving grandparents. Knowing for a long time that I wanted to be a mom, I’ve already given my parents their grandparent names: Ginga for my dad and Granzie for my mom. Their hearts are already open and ready to love your child. Three of my cousins, Hunter, Kathryn Grace (KG), and Nicole will shower my future child with love, and so will extended family of 3 second cousins with 5 young children among them.
The Holidays
Holidays are centered around family, food, and my mom’s beautiful decorations. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it seems a bit more relaxed than Christmas, but the food is just as good! More importantly, it is a reminder to be grateful for all life has blessed me with. My parents have a cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, and we celebrate most holidays there. If we’re lucky we have a holiday snow to watch, while the fire crackles, and the tree glows with colorful lights and memories.
Meet My Friends
On this page you're seeing a lot of my very best friends – friends who are like family! Several of my friends have children for whom I'm an "Aunt by Love." The joy my friends and their children bring to my life is not something I would change for the world.
What My Friends Say About Me
"Kate is the biggest cheerleader in the room. She is the shoulder people cry on. She has a heart full of love and will be able to provide a child with an unbelievable life.” — Ashley (Friend, colleague, and mom of 2 teenagers)
“Being a parent of two by no means makes me an expert on parenting, but I do think that it speaks volumes that I would leave my kids with Kate, any day no questions asked....She is one of the most selfless people I know and admire, and anyone would be lucky to have her to call ‘Mom’.” — Lizzy (Friend, colleague, and mom of 2 littles)
Thoughts On Parenting
When my future child stands on the brink of adulthood, these are this lessons that I hope he or she will have learned:
- To honor you and to know the love that you have for them
- To care for our Earth
- To accept and respect all people, regardless of differences
- To live by the platinum rule, treating others as they want to be treated
- To be honest
- To live with the knowledge that they are loved and to share that love with those around them
Closing
Thank you for reading my profile and considering me as the adoptive mother of your child. I know that we, together, want what is best for your child, and that we, together, would move mountains to provide that.
With an open heart and open arms, Kate
