Hello! I’m Kevin from Signal Hill, California. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me as you consider an adoption plan for your child. I have always envisioned myself being a father one day. My hope is that you get the sense of the loving, caring, and fun person I am as a prospective parent. I want to give you better insight to what I value and reassure you that I can provide a safe environment for your child. One that would allow your child to prosper, share meaningful experiences with myself and others, and most importantly have fun along the way. Thank you for considering me for this opportunity to start this amazing adventure of parenthood!
Dear Birth Mother...
My Path to Adoption
Adoption has always been part of my plan to be a dad. I grew up with three siblings and a lot of cousins. Being the older brother and cousin, I enjoyed planning fun activities to keep them entertained and I would take it upon myself to take care of them. Over the years, I have mentored at Big Brother Big Sister, played soccer (horribly) with children at a Mexican orphanage, and I'm that silly Uncle to my nephews. All of these experiences have reaffirmed my decision to adopt. I firmly believe that "family" is comprised of deep connections and relationships formed with various people and is not just defined by genetics. I am a very dedicated and committed person, and I am so excited to start a family of my own.
What Makes Me Happy
- Baking new desserts
- Watching a new documentary on my cozy living room couch
- Helping others
- Weekend hikes with Lilah
About Me
I was born and raised in San Francisco and was the first of my family to move to Southern California. I've been living here for over 10 years and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I plan to adopt your child as a single parent, but my friends and family will be an integral part of our lives.
Family, friends, work and becoming a dad are extremely important to me. I am highly dependable, and always commit to do what I say. Some of my proudest accomplishments include graduating from UC Berkeley, finding a career that I am passionate about and excel at, and buying my first home. All of which are possible thanks to the love and support of my family and close friends. I would be adopting your child as a single gay parent, which will have its challenges. However, I know that my strong local "tribe" will be there to guide me in raising a child with lots of love, fun, and way too many hugs and kisses!
My favorite childhood memories include a full house with lots of games, laughter and love with my parents and three siblings. My Chinese parents immigrated from Indonesia to San Francisco to pursue a college degree. Being the first of their families to move to the US, they worked multiple jobs and eventually sold real estate in order to provide for our large family. My siblings and I lived with both our parents and paternal grandmother. I spent a lot of time with my large extended family during my childhood. We would often go on family road trips during the summer, have friendly competitive challenges (like who could plank the longest), and played instruments/sang together in our church's band. Family truly means everything to me, and even though most of my family and friends live in the Bay Area, I still communicate with them and visit often.
I attended UC Berkeley, where I double majored in Business Administration and Economics. After graduating and working for a few years, I decided to move down to Southern California for a job opportunity and have lived here ever since. It's probably because I'm so used to the sunny weather here! I'm currently a Senior Business Systems Analyst. I love my job because I get to help others and I also have the opportunity to train other junior analysts. I love to teach, and so it is truly rewarding to see the impact I've had on the development of their careers.
The past few years, I have worked hard to build a family home, excel in my career, and now I want to make my dream of becoming a father into a reality.
I have a 5 year old German Husky named Lilah. She enjoys running around in our backyard and playing hide and seek. She's taught me a lot about patience, the importance of consistency and being dependable. I love living in Southern California, as I've built a strong network of friends locally that I also call family.
Sharing the first memories and life experiences excite me as a parent. I see myself learning how to install a car seat, holding hands on the first day of daycare, and trying new recipes while eating our way through life. This also includes, taking daily walks with Lilah, exploring parks, learning new things along the way, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Fun Facts About Myself
- I like to teach & mentor others. I tutored middle school students in Math and Science
- I love Harry Potter! I've watched all the movies and the play on Broadway
- My favorite ice cream flavor is cookies & cream on a waffle cone please!
- I enjoy watching documentaries. I love learning new things and sharing fun facts with others.
- Musicals make me want to sing and dance. I've seen over 15 and counting!
- I have a sweet tooth. Candy shops are the best.
- I love to run, especially outdoors. I've completed 3 half marathons.
My Hobbies & Interests
I like to stay active, enjoy desserts and love to plan. I enjoy taking long walks or hikes with Lilah or even joining a meetup group with people around the neighborhood. For years I practiced hot yoga, but now I'm more focused on running outside. Since I love desserts, it's a great way to burn off the extra calories! I often seek out bakeries or try new recipes to bake myself. I get lots of compliments for my banana pudding and mochi muffins. I also love planning! I may even enjoy the process of planning an activity almost as much as the activity itself. I often put together detail-oriented spreadsheets for trips and events. As a hobby, I even participated in wedding planning a few years ago on the weekends.

More About My Hobbies & Interests
I love to travel and can already imagine the adventures we will have as a family, including road trips with Lilah and exploring new restaurants and cities. Japan, Greece, UK, France, Spain, Italy and Indonesia are some of the countries I've visited. I travel a lot and can already picture the adventures I'll have as a family with your child and Lilah. When I'm not traveling, I like to spend quality time with family and friends. We can play boardgames (since I am the Monopoly champion) or catch up with each other over a group potluck. I want to share these moments with your child, whether that be a family vacation or just a night at home having a dance party.
My Home
I live in a small community in Signal Hill, which is close to Long Beach in California.
I relocated to a new 3 bedroom home last year for my job. I enjoy decorating my home and would love to setup a nursery. My home is in a great location where I'm close to shopping areas, parks, playgrounds, and Downtown LA is a 30 minute drive (of course, without traffic). I live in a two story home with a huge backyard, so Lilah can roam and I know she’s looking forward to playing ball with an additional person. This is a great neighborhood to take strolls and catch some great views of the city. I'm the President of our Homeowner's Association and we often have community events - like hosting an annual block party only a couple months after moving into the neighborhood!
As mentioned, I do love baking and making home cooked meals, and I can envision us spending lots of time in the kitchen concocting our own recipes that will go in our own family recipe book! There is also a great elementary school right across the street from my home, a public library within walking distance, and many great daycare options available.
My Family
I am very close with my family and they will play a fundamental part of my child's life. Growing up with 3 siblings and a lot of cousins has taught me the importance of family. I am excited to be taking this first step in building my own family.
My older sister has two boys under the age of 5, and my dad loves being a grandparent. My younger siblings are also great with my nephews and they can't wait to welcome an additional nephew/niece. We enjoy spending time with each other over family dinners. I also keep in contact with a lot of my cousins. I live close to a few in Los Angeles, and one recently had a new baby that I visit often. Talk about baby fever! I'm learning so much from my family about parenthood, and I am so grateful to have a supportive family that is always there for me.
My Friends
Aside from family, friendships are really important to me. A majority of my friends, who are of similar age, already have kids or are starting a family. I’ve known my best friend since junior high, and she has two young children. We all recently went on vacation together, and I was happily entertaining and caring for her children. My friends can always count on me to be the one singing and dancing with their kids. I enjoy making them laugh and I am truly entertained by watching them eat!
What My Loved Ones Say About Me
“Kevin is great with kids. I've known him during his years when he volunteered as a Big Brother and he would always light up when he shared with me all the fun activities he had planned for his Little Brother. I have 2 small children, and they love their Uncle Kevin. He is present, he responds and can be creative with them as well. He knows when to set boundaries and knows when to play.
Kevin is independent, and he also has the support of his family and friends. Kevin is extremely close with his family and would often visit them and engage in texts/calls. I communicate with Kevin everyday, and he strives to develop long lasting and meaningful relationships. He is highly respected at work, as I know him to be focused on being a high performer. He has also developed a strong sense of trust and friendship with the people he works with. I know that becoming a father is extremely important to Kevin and I have nothing but positive thoughts that Kevin will thrive as a father, and that's because of his strong supportive network and the connections he's made.”
~Minette (Best Friend)
Fun Fact: We have been best friends for over 25 years, and I am always invited to her family trips.
“Kevin is one of the most responsible and committed individuals and his actions are motivated by love and care for the others around him. He is extremely thoughtful in anticipating the needs of his friends and family and without a doubt will provide a loving and nurturing home for any child. One of the greatest gifts to a parent is seeing others love your kids as their own. Kevin does just that for my children and I know he will be an amazing parent to his own child.”
~Kimberley (Older Sister)
Fun Fact: We are only one year apart and attended the same college. Some of our best memories include living together and trying new restaurants.
“Kevin is one of the most caring and thoughtful people we have ever met. He will go above and beyond to provide for his loved ones without question. He also has a way to put everyone around him at ease and to form meaningful connections with them. Our daughter adores him and it is easy to see why. Any child would be lucky to have him as a father.”
~Stephanie (Cousin) & Justin (Cousin's Husband)
Fun Fact: I planned Stephanie and Justin's wedding from start to finish.
My Dog, Lilah
Lilah is my 5 year old, German Shepherd Husky mix and she has 2 different colored eyes! She is my big, fluff ball full of fun and definitely makes me feel young at heart! Seeing her tail wag when I say words like "walk" or "treat" makes me so happy. Everyday we go on multiple walks and take long hikes on the weekend. We explore different areas of LA and her favorite activity is going to the nearby dog beach. She loves to play and loves other dogs, people, and especially kids. I can't wait for her to meet your child, and I know she will love having another "hooman" in the house!
Fun Fact: Lilah loves salmon!
Thoughts on Parenting
I want to ensure you that your child will be cared for in every possible way, and we will create fond memories that will be filled with love, laughter, and fun adventures. My main goal is not only to provide for your child but also give him/her a joyful life filled with love. I may not know all the answers when it comes to parenting, but I will try my best to provide all of my love, dedication, and commitment to my future child. Your child will be my number one priority in life. I want your child to live a life filled with joy and to explore the different cultures and experiences the world has to offer. I will offer my guidance as a parent, but also encourage open communication so that your child can discover and pursue his/her passion and achieve his/her dreams.
In Closing- Thank You!
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and considering me as the father of your child. My commitment is to love your child unconditionally, enrich his/her life with diversity and multicultural experiences, teach him/her about respect and honesty, and to build core memories along the way. I will be entering this stage as a single parent, but I am fortunate to have a great group of family and friends with tons of experience. I've known many of them for years and they have supported me all this way, and will continue to mold me into the best father I can be. I am grateful for your unequivocal role in making my dream of becoming a dad come true. I hope this is the start of our adoption journey together.
