Hi we are Rachel and Curt from Portsmouth, Rhode Island. We’ve been married 19 years and have been teammates for 20. Through thick and thin, good times and bad, we have stuck together. We have always wanted to be parents. Whether it’s a love of the outdoors and playing in nature, or capturing a quiet moment with a book, sharing our life with our child has been a dream for many years. Even though biological children was not an option to us, we never gave up on the dream of being parents. Thank you for getting to know us.

Though we’ve not been able to have a biological child, we’ve realized that love, connection, and creating a family is more than biology. To us, family is a team you create and grow. It’s not always something in which you are born, but rather something you choose and nurture. Adopting our child means bringing them into our team- connecting them to a community of people, who will be there to support them in every way. We know “our family” will embrace this child with open hearts and arms, and will walk alongside us as we grow together.

We grew up on opposite sides of the same river and met after college. We both loved small town life, animals and sailing. We ended up sailing on the same team for seven years, and after we left our hometown, we learned we were still teammates in the adventure of a lifetime. Life isn’t always easy; we leaned on one another a lot. Looking back those years of summers on the beach, racing sailboats and fond memories of fireworks, taught us to laugh when you can, and work hard through the tough times. We still joke around with old movie quotes, and play on the water, but we’ve added more fun. Now we are growing our own veggies, going to outdoor concerts, and training our puppy, Roxy. She’s our adventure princess who carries toys to people begging to play and snuggles tight to us every night.

A big part of my life is being a nurse. I am empathetic, compassionate, and a strong advocate for the rights of others. My nursing pals tell me, I’m the one to come to on a bad day because I listen, offer comfort, and stand by a person when it’s time to take action. One of my best friends says I’m exceptionally loyal. I stand by my people. I don’t mind hard work, and often jump in to help others when they have too much. I feel connected when caring for my garden, or my puppy or the people I love. Everything and everyone have different needs, I like to “find them where they are” and help them grow. Roxy is my special shadow, she can be shy at first, then shares her toys and gives lots of puppy kisses. Life has not always been easy for me, I moved out on my own at 18, and had to grow a lot on my own; it made me brave. I find a lot of joy helping others and maybe making it better for someone else, warms my heart. That’s why being a mom sounds incredible to me; I want to be there for another person, while they find their way and grow into their unique future self.

Rachel is many things to our family, and we are endlessly grateful for everything she brings to our lives. She’s the creative genius behind everything that makes our household run smoothly—imaginative, determined, and always dedicated. Her heart is full of warmth, especially when it comes to our puppy, Roxy, and the special bond they share. As a nurse, Rachel’s empathy and compassion extends far beyond our home. Every day, she helps heal and care for her patients with genuine kindness and skill, making a profound impact on the lives of those she serves. But Rachel is more than just a caregiver - she’s an adventurer and dreams big. Whether we’re exploring new places, trying out new hobbies, or simply seeking out little moments of joy, Rachel spirit of enthusiasm and curiosity make life a lot of fun. She looks toward the future with hope and optimism. She’s always looking for ways to grow as a family.

A big part of my life has always been the water. My first time on a sailboat was when I was just 5 days old. My father and grandfather were both sailors, so I grew up with that same love for the water. When I was a kid, my parents were teachers and had summers off, so we spent summers cruising the coastline of Michigan. Some of my best memories are of exploring the rivers and lakes that feed into Lake Michigan. The love of being on the water has stuck with me, and now that I am a maritime captain, I enjoy my career by the ocean. I’ve learned a great deal working on remote islands, and sailing the lakes, Caribbean, and North Atlantic Ocean. Now I enjoy mentoring people of all ages in all things maritime. When I’m not working, I enjoy being home, taking care of my responsibilities, and doing our many team projects. You can often find me playing a game of fetch with Roxy...which never ends. I’m really excited to add another member to our team and share all the love and adventures we have to offer.

Curt is the definition of loyalty, responsibility, and dependability. He’s someone you can always count on—whether it’s for his family, his job, or his friends. He’s dedicated to everything he does, giving 100% to his work and his relationships. What I love most is how much Curt values teamwork. He’s a true partner, always ready to help, support, and lead by example. His commitment to being a loving husband and future father is something I admire every day. Our home sits on half an acre in the quiet, picturesque town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Here, we’ve created a peaceful retreat that blends nature with coastal living just outside of the city of Providence. The beauty of the area offers the perfect mix of rural tranquility and easy access to local beaches, city life, and everything Rhode Island has to offer. We’ve embraced our land, growing a thriving garden and making the most of our outdoor space. Whether we’re relaxing on the back deck, working on projects, or tending to plants, we love how our home connects us to the natural world around us. Portsmouth’s charm, with its wooded landscapes and coastal air, is the perfect backdrop for our homesteading lifestyle. It’s a place where we can slow down, enjoy the changing seasons, and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. Our home here is more than just a place—it’s where we grow, create, and dream about the future.

While our roots trace back to the Midwest, where our extended family still lives, we’ve made the East Coast our home. Our family ties remain strong, and we cherish the time when we visit Michigan to reconnect with them. Out east we have been fortunate to build a community of friends who feel like family. The bonds we’ve formed with those around us enrich our daily lives. Whether it’s gathering for a meal, sharing some laughs in the yard, or supporting each other through life’s challenges, we’re grateful for this close-knit circle, who make this place home. Our church is part of our circle. We love volunteering with the kids, helping with Christmas play productions, and sharing in the weekly reset that our church family shares with us. They are a strong source of love, support and inspiration. Though we may be far from the Midwest, our hearts are full with the friendships and connections we’ve cultivated here on the East Coast.
