Hello! We are Sidney and Hugo from Long Beach, California. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We are honored to show you how excited we are to become parents in our growing home.

We have always wanted to participate in the adoption process. Becoming parents is the natural next step in our relationship with each other and with our family. We are excited to be on this journey with you.

We're High School Sweethearts and were married in 2010. We instantly bonded over our mutual love and appreciation of music and silly jokes.

Our proposal included a fun band and a surprise engagement party. Our wedding included lots of music, food, and family dancing; this is the environment in which we want to raise a family.

We love creating routines around our work and life schedule, which includes exercising with our trainers, setting time aside to read and watch films, and, as you may have noticed, watching live music.

We have recently been traveling more, which has shed new light on how resourceful we can be in new environments. We love taking our goddaughters and mothers to restaurants to try new types of cuisine. We love being around individuals who strike interesting conversations about the world.

Sidney is an elementary school teacher and teaches 6th grade students who are taller than she is! She loves to infuse joy and laughter in the classroom. Outside of the classroom, she is a history enthusiast who loves to learn about everything. She watches Gilmore Girls way too often and enjoys watching 90s sitcom classics. She is godmother to two wonderful young ladies and enjoys to host friends and family dinner parties. She is a member of an immigrant family from Guatemala and makes it a goal to blend Latino and American traditions at home.

Sidney leads her life with gratitude, caring, and understanding. She is excited to share her heart with a new life brought into this world.

Sidney is the most empathetic, patient, and kind person I have ever known. It has been a privilege to be married to someone who cares about others so deeply before she looks after herself.

Her jokes make everyone laugh, her tastes in the arts make our home unique, and her mission to bring education to underprivileged children make her a perfect mother-to-be. She is naturally maternal with everyone, and being her partner in parenthood will be my greatest honor.

Sidney's Christian faith is an important part of her value system. She attends a Lutheran church on Sundays with her mother. The church she attends values acceptance, community, and faith. Sidney has attended the same church since she was in elementary school and has become an important part of her life. She has taken part of church activities including running a small Sunday school program. It will be important to attend church with our child, while being accepting and respectful of any decisions our child makes in their life’s journey.

Hugo is a business owner and avid music fan. When he’s not managing his marketing firm, he is playing jazz and Latin American music on the piano, or spending time and joking around with friends and family. Hugo and Sidney love to see musicians perform, and are eager to raise a family based in academia and the arts. He is a son of an immigrant family from Ecuador, and the brother of a sibling in the television and film industry.

Hugo is excited to become a parent with Sidney in raising a well-rounded child, prepared for an exciting future.

Hugo is a one-of-a-kind gem of a person. His silly sense of humor creates a fun environment for our family and friends.

He fills our home with wonderful jazz and Latin tunes from the piano. He is a loving and caring son, brother, and godfather. I am confident that he will take all his wonderful personality traits and be purposeful in his role as a father. He takes care of his family in whatever ways he can. Fatherhood will be a natural fit for a man who brings joy and caring into our family on a daily basis.

Long Beach, California is one of the most diverse cities in the United States, and we are proud to have lived here since 2014.

Our community comes from all walks of life, and they have given us much perspective on how unique everyone’s life paths can be. Our neighborhood is near a few schools and is very walkable, which brings a sense of security that we are lucky to have. Just a few minutes from the beach, the weather is almost always sunny and mild all year long, which will make this an amazing environment to spend much time outdoors.

Our family and friends are so fun! Family dinners have made both our families into one unit, where we share stories and jokes over delicious, home-made meals.

We collect board games and regularly play on our dining table which doubles as a board game table. Though we are competitive, we see this as a fun way to spend more time with one another. Our family has limited exposure to adoption, however everyone is extraordinarily excited in this part of our family history. While our child will have two parents, they will really have a large and supportive family eager to be part of their growing history.

Birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are central to our family.

We love gathering over snacks and home-cooked meals for many hours of discussion and playing board and card games. More often than not, our friends will join us, however these are friends who we consider our family. It’s important for us to have a family that values time with one another, and structure to our Latin American traditions.

We believe parenting is both a gift and extraordinary responsibility. Our promise is to raise children in a home that promotes structure, growth, and love for one another. We believe in open adoptions, as all studies demonstrate it is the best option for everyone involved in this beautiful journey. While we have our own interests, we believe the best path to discover our child’s passions and interests is to share as many experiences as we can with them, to understand what they respond to most. We will support their interests, and ensure they are aware of their origins and unique family structure.
